Life-threatening bleeding can happen at the range, in a workshop, on the road, while hunting, or at home. This free interactive course teaches ordinary people how to recognize severe bleeding, call for professional help, and take useful immediate action within their level of training.

What You’ll Learn

This introductory course covers:

• How to recognize life-threatening external bleeding

• Scene safety and activating emergency medical services

• Firm, continuous direct pressure

• When a commercial tourniquet may be appropriate

• Basic tourniquet placement and reassessment

• When wound packing may be appropriate

• The role of hemostatic gauze

• Monitoring the injured person until EMS arrives

• Providing a useful handoff to responding professionals

This course provides general first-aid education and familiarization. It is not medical certification, medical advice, or a substitute for supervised hands-on training.

During a life-threatening emergency, call 911 immediately, provide care within your knowledge and training, and follow the instructions of emergency dispatchers and medical professionals.

Students are strongly encouraged to complete recognized, hands-on bleeding-control, first-aid, CPR, and AED training.
